What is Skin Lesion Removal?
A wide range of skin lesions may be removed for medical or cosmetic reasons. While removal of skin lesions is typically recommended if the lesion shows signs of possible malignancy such as changing color or shape, many of these lesions may still be harmless. A biopsy can be performed on the lesion to be sure.
Often, lesions that don’t display any of the tell-tale cancerous signs may be initially treated with non-surgical procedures. Lesions that do not respond to these treatments may then be treated as candidates for skin lesion removal.
Lesions that do show any of the cancerous signs will be removed surgically without trying nonsurgical procedures. In addition, some non-cancerous lesions in sensitive or highly visible areas may also be surgically removed without trying nonsurgical methods in order to minimize scarring.
