About Head and Neck Surgery
Otolaryngology is the surgical specialty of the head and neck – or ear, nose, and throat. It is the oldest medical specialty in the United States. Head and neck surgeons are expert in the surgical and nonsurgical diagnosis and treatment of the soft and rigid structures of the mouth, jaw, face, and neck.
The head and neck include the important nerves that control sight, smell, hearing, and the face. In the head and neck area otolaryngologists are trained to treat infectious diseases, both benign and malignant (cancerous) tumors, facial trauma, and deformities of the face. Dr. Snow performs both cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. Thyroid and parathyroid gland conditions are an important part of head and neck surgery.
